Just a Guy with 38 Unfinished Songs
A career in music.
It’s something I’ve always dreamed of having. Preferably, I’d like to perform. Whether if I was opening for a really great artist…or tuning guitars for a really great artist. Heck, just performing music and being paid in gum would be nice!
Just a few minutes ago, I flipped through several songs in my notebook. After that, I checked my laptop and found several more unfinished songs. In total, I have a measly…38 unfinished songs, 3 finished songs, and 4 people whom I owe money to while secretly hoping they forgot. Luckily, these 4 people are horrible at having confrontations, so I rely on that simple fact. Kind of like when you have an indecisive group of friends who can never decide where to eat, so you take advantage of that by always being the one to pick. Fun times.
Despite my history of not performing too well with music (especially at my FSA grad moment in 2010 which I try to block out of my mind), I want to believe that I can get better the more I do it. In fact, I’ve already found several spots in San Francisco that hold open mics! Once I finish a song that I’m actually proud of, it’s back to the city. Or any daycare that will let me play their kids to sleep. Afterwards, I would try to open every child’s bag and hope I find chocolate pudding to eat for myself.
I know it probably sounds bad that I haven’t been proud of an original song yet. But, there IS one I’ve been writing for a while that seems like it could do me some good. It’s almost done (and I say “almost” because I’ve been trying to fit it between learning how to match socks without looking and teaching my niece to say “clock” properly).
All I need is a test subject to listen to the song, make a few tweaks, toast a bagel with some schmear, force my test subject to listen to the song again after the tweaks have been made, then romantically spoon while watching all three “Lord of the Rings” movies.
Good plan, me. Good plan.
