About

Hello, I am Dan. To this day, I still wonder...why no one has ever drawn a picture of a panda riding a unicorn while holding a lightsaber. If you have found this picture, please let me know ASAP.

Being a Writer on tumblr is…

One of the most difficult things to be on the Internet. For several reasons, actually.

1) A lot of people (especially from 4chan), actually HATE tumblr. I myself am indifferent to tumblr, and I only use it because it lets me upload music easier.

2) Most text entries are drowned in a sea of images and .gif files from imgur.com (which I highly implore you to visit when you have time because the comments people write on imgur are way funny).

3) Most people just skim are entries (I know I’m guilty of it myself). Unless you have an eye-catching opening like…“Man in Banana Suit Saves Little Girl From Uncontrollable Overweight Rollerblader” or “14 Dead, 8 Wounded in Tragic Cotton Candy Accident”. Otherwise, you just have to hope that your readers and/or friends care about your thoughts.

For me, writing on this thing is a love-hate relationship. I love writing; I love that people read it when they have time; I love the feel of pressing keys on a keyboard. But I absolutely hate how it takes 3 hours to write something (or sometimes a few days) that only takes the average person about 15 minutes to read. But I suppose that’s how every writer feels.

Often times I ask myself, “Why do I write?” Is it because I believe in self-expression through the Power of the Written Word? Do I write for my friends who get bored and actually enjoy reading from time to time? Or is it because of the sexual thrill? Well the answers are…Yes, yes, and DOUBLE YES! In that order.

I used to complain that no one ever really writes on tumblr anymore. But you know…I get it now. It’s tough, time consuming, and you’re never really sure if people are actually reading it. With me, I kinda just write…then hope that there’s a “shotgun effect” and it just hits anyone out there by chance. In fact, that’s how I’m taking my songwriting now. Just write it, hopefully someone gets touched by it (in a consensual way), then ask them to dinner.

SIDE NOTE: To the passive aggressive people out there, please just write in your own personal diary. Your stuff bums me out sometimes.

SIDE NOTE OF THE SIDE NOTE: See, the true irony here is that I’m also being passive aggressive. But instead to one person, it’s to a whole group. In this case, I will vote that it’s A-OK!
